The strict requirements for
medical power supply filters

In the modern medical environment, the stability and security of electronic devices are directly related to the life and health of patients.
Medical equipment has extremely strict requirements for the purity of the power supply. As a key component for suppressing electromagnetic interference (EMI), power filters play a crucial role in ensuring the reliable operation of medical equipment and the safety of patients and medical staff. This also determines that the design standards for power filters are more stringent.
Earth leakage current: It is usually required to be below 300 µA, or even lower (such as 100 µA).
Patient leakage current: More stringent requirements are imposed, which can be as low as below 10 µA.
3. Strong electromagnetic compatibility performance
Medical equipment is both a "sensitive device" and an "emitter" in terms of EMC.
Interference resistance: The equipment must be capable of resisting disturbances from the power grid (such as fast transient bursts, surges, and voltage sags) to ensure it does not malfunction. Filters play a crucial protective role in this regard.
Launch control: The electromagnetic noise generated by the equipment itself must not be conducted out through the power line, nor can it interfere with other sensitive devices (such as monitors, electrocardiographs, etc.) on the same power grid. The filter must suppress these noises.
Standards and Regulations for Medical Power
Supply Filters
The following standards are usually referred to or adopted by the regulations of various countries and serve as the basis for design and testing.
Global/Basic:
Core Safety Standard: IEC 60601-1
Core EMC Standard: IEC 60601-1-2
Key regulatory points: Ground leakage current, insulation, and EMC performance
China:
Core safety standard: GB 9706.1 (Compulsory)
Core EMC standard: YY 9706.102 (mandatory)
Key regulatory points: Ground leakage current, insulation, and EMC performance.
North America:
Core safety standards: UL 60601-1 / CSA C22.2 No. 60601-1
Core EMC standards: FCC Part 15 Subpart B, CISPR 1
Key regulatory points: FDA market approval, the filter must have UL/cUL marks.
Europe:
Core safety standard: EN 60601-1
